Family photographer Cambridge
I’m a family photographer based near Cambridge UK. Photographing families and children throughout the beautiful Cambridgeshire countryside is what I do all the time. This October half term, I took some time off work, and decided to concentrate on photographing my own family. Documenting our precious time together during the school holidays was not only huge fun, but very important to me. I spent time working on my documentary photography skills and tried to photography things about my family that I wanted to remember in years to come.
Capturing the moments
Luckily, the weather was glorious, and as a result, we spent a lot of time outside. We visited grandparents, went to the beach, walked everyday and spent hours just playing by the river. I wanted to try and capture all the moments exactly as they happened. It was hard not to ask my family to move into the light I wanted over there or just do that thing again. But I constantly reminded myself that these photos weren’t meant to look perfect. They were meant to document what was actually happening!
Having my photo taken
I’m always behind the camera in my family photos. It was vital for me to actually get in front of it during the October half term holiday. It’s important to me for two reasons. Firstly, to be present in the photographs documenting my children’s childhoods. Secondly, its good to remind myself how my clients might feel in front of my camera! If you’re anything like me, I imagine very self-conscious!
I would make sure the settings on my camera were as I wanted them, then hand it over to another member of the family. Encouraging them to snap away at the action was fun – even the kids took some pictures! Cambridge photographer
Documenting our life
October half term was certainly fun! Such a precious time out from work and school to hang out with the people nearest and dearest to us. And as a family photographer, to have a chance to document our own family life for a change!
