Family photo shoot, Cambridge
Capturing a special moment in time for a family is such an honour! It’s wonderful to know my photos will be treasured and passed down through families to remember childhoods and happy times together. I’ve been meaning to share this session with you all for a few weeks, but I’ve been back to back with shoots and editing. This family photo shoot took place a few weeks ago as we all went back to school earlier this month. It was a glorious sunny early Autumn evening and we got some fantastic shots in the pretty evening light.
Planning your family photo shoot
I planned the details of the session with the family beforehand. The father had very fond memories of a photographer coming to take family photographs when he was a child. He wanted to do something similar. We decided on a mixture of relaxed documentary style photographs and some more formal posed shots. We discussed clothing, locations and settled on a mixture of things to bring the whole session together.
On the day
We started the session by going for a walk near to the beautiful Cambridge village of Reach. The sun was shining and we walked along the river, capturing the girls playing with their dog, Ruff. Next, we went back to their beautiful home and the children introduced me to their chickens and tortoises. We even managed to get both tortoises in a shot!
A new location
I like to have lots of variety in my family photo shoot sessions, so as the warmth of the sun faded, we moved location. The girls changed their outfits, and we headed to the family farm. We did a few more formal shots and even involved the girls’ pony, Prince!
