Lockdown 2020

60 Days and Counting!

I’m a family photographer living in a tiny rural Cambridgeshire village.  Since the Coronavirus lockdown started here in the UK, I’ve been documenting the highs and lows of everyday family life in quarantine. So far, it’s been 60 days… and counting!

About Us

We are a family of four (five if you count the puppy!) and we’ve been in lockdown in a tiny rural village in Cambridgeshire since 17th March 2020.

Predictably, there have been highs and lows.  For the first few days I was so anxious I couldn’t pick up my camera… But then I decided to channel my nervous energy into documenting this unique time in our lives.

So far, we’ve celebrated 3 lockdown birthdays, worried continuously about work and whether we can return, home-schooled and logged onto live lessons, relished countless Zoom calls to friends and family, embraced home haircuts (us and the dog), clapped for our carers every Thursday night, supported local neighbours and spent countless hours roaming the deserted fields and countryside around our village.

March 2020

I really didn’t want to pick up the camera.  I was so worried – about us, about family, about what was being reported each day, about how the next few weeks would look.

But it was my daughter’s 12th birthday in March, the first of three we’ve celebrated so far in lockdown.  I couldn’t let it pass without recording some of what we did that day.

So, I made a decision then to photograph my family every day during lockdown, and make a photo diary of our time together.

April 2020

As our new routine slowly emerged, I photographed lots of moments from our lives. It soon became aparant that the majority of my photo diary would be shot during our daily dog walks.  It was the one time of day that we were all engaged in something together and felt happy and free.

Our puppy was 6 months old and we all doted on him, so our daily hour’s alloted outing became a precious and longed-for daily treat.

May 2020

We continued to be blessed with good weather, and restrictions for outdoor activity were lifted slightly – much to the delight of my family!

We embraced plenty of long walks and bike rides in and around our village, whilst the children got used to their home school routine.

We were all missing friends and family dreadfully and were starting to feel a mixture of excitement and apprehension about returning to work and school.

June 2020…

The children are not returning to school just yet, but nervous excitement is building in the hope that they might soon.  I’ll hopefully be returning to work.  I miss photographing families in the beautiful Cambridgeshire countryside and would love to get back to it.  I’m planning my first socially distanced family photo shoot, which actually isn’t that different to a normal family photo shoot since I use such long lenses in my work.
