Booking your mini session

some information about your family, planning your session, and what happens on the day

Thank you for choosing me to take your family photographs. I am looking forward to meeting you and your family in person for a fun photo session!  Please fill in the form below to book your mini session, giving some more detailed information about you and your family.  Don’t forget to include the date and time slot you’d like! Please also take a few minutes to read through the information about the day itself and suggestions about what to wear and bring.  This will help your mini session run smoothly.

Once you have submitted all the details on the form, an invoice will be emailed to you separately for your mini session fee (£250).  This covers the shoot itself, editing the images, access to a private password-protected online viewing gallery and three 10x8 inch mounted professional laboratory prints.  Should you wish to order more images from your session, you can, although you are not obliged to do so! Details of my full mini-session pricing can be found here.

What to wear for your family mini session...

Choosing what to wear for your photo-session is actually very important.  The wrong clothing choice can make a beautiful family portrait look clumsy.

The basics:

The basic rule to picking out clothes for the family is co-ordinating, not matching!  Co-ordinating your family in both colour and style can really pull a family portrait together.  Keep the main bulk of your clothes neutral – creams, greys, whites, blues and denims etc.  Then pick out a colour or two that you can all use various tones of within your selections – yellows, blues, pinks etc.

Colours:

Solid colours photograph well, so try to keep it simple.  Avoid clothing with big logos, graphics or busy patterns.  Don’t be afraid to accessorise though – scarves, hats, hairbands, braces, jewellery etc all add interest and texture. Below are some links to my Pinterest boards on choosing outfits for your photo session according to the seasons:

SPRING / SUMMER                  AUTUMN                     WINTER

Comfort:

Make sure everybody is comfortable!  Children dressed in comfortable clothes that are able to run around have fun will give out far more real smiles than those in formal uncomfortable clothes that feel constricting.

Preparation:

Prepare in advance.  Make sure your clothes are clean and pressed a couple of days before the session.  Keep make up simple – the family photo session is not the time to try out that new shade of fluorescent eyeshadow you saw in a magazine!  And if you’re prone to ‘shine’ apply a layer of translucent powder just before the session.  Make sure boys and men’s haircuts are done at least two weeks beforehand in case of any disasters!

Lastly, if you’re unsure of what to wear, please feel free to email me a photo beforehand and I can offer some feedback.  Feel free to bring a bag of other accessories or children’s outfits so you can have variety in your images (or incase anybody falls in the mud!).

What happens on the day of your mini-session...?

What happens once I’ve booked?

I will send you an email confirming your session details and payment, as well as a price list, incase you wish to purchase extra photos after the shoot.  A few days before your mini-session, I’ll call you to finalise all the small details (meeting place, contact details, what to wear / bring with you etc) and you can ask me any questions you have about the day!

What happens on the day?

Your session will last around 30 minutes.  Since time is limited for mini-sessions, it’s important to arrive on time and be prepared.  Please ensure your children have eaten, had naps if necessary and finished with anything you don’t want in the photos (dummies, toys, snacks etc). I will offer some direction to make sure you are in the most flattering light and position, but then I like to photograph your family naturally.  Chat with your children, play games, tell jokes, make eye contact and have fun!  This is your time to relax and enjoy each other’s company, whilst I photograph those real smiles!

What if it rains?

If consistent rain is forecast, we will re-schedule your session for the same time on the following day.  I will keep a close eye on the forecast and be in touch a couple of days beforehand.

What happens afterwards?

I will spend time selecting and digitally editing the very best images from your session (usually around 10-20).  These are then uploaded to a private password-protected viewing gallery.  You will receive your viewing gallery around 2-3 weeks after your session.   It will be accessible for 7 days for you to view and share with family and friends.  Please make sure you let me know the three prints you’d like and make any other orders before the gallery expires.
